Chapter: We'll manage

Very possibly the sweetest depiction of the line between Ron & Hermione. He always understood get anxiousness and knew his to calm her. She always admired his levelheadedness in the thick of a crisis. They are the calm to each others storm. She is a planner while he is a strategist. I think because Ron is known for saying and doing stupid things at times, we often don't remember the times when he says and does the exact right things. He's smarter than he's often given credit for. He is the one of the three who is an we excellent wizard chess player after all. Hermione, smart as she is, is also an overachiever. Overachievers are by nature often controlling because they have a need to control their environment so as to control the outcome of situations. We often don't realize how often Hermoine's anxieties make her do stupid or day stupid things. Like the infamous "Are you a witch or aren't you?" when she forgot to use magic to fix the situation. Somehow these two complete each other.

Author's Response:

Aww, I'm glad you liked it.

Now, for confession time. Honestly, I'm not much of a Romione shipper, but I pride myself on being able to look into a character, no matter how I feel about said character, and write their story in a way that feels realistic to both canon and life. The moments I chose in the story were designed to be sort of a yin-yang: there's a little bit of light in the dark after the battle and all its tragedy, but there is also a little bit of loss as they send their youngest out into the world and stay in their empty nest. It's just...life.

You make some good points about the characters, and I'm glad my work could inspire you to think about them and give you good memories of one of your favourite ships.

If you love Romione, I suggest visiting WeasleyMom and HalfASlug. They are both amazing writers who pretty much specialise in canon romance and, more specifically, Romione.

Thanks for visiting! It's always nice to get a review for an older story.

I have nothing constructive to say, just: flailllllll. What lovely fluff. :)

Author's Response:

No constructive comments required; I love all reviews. This was a gift, and it was given the blessing of the Romione queen (WeasleyMom, if you might like to check out more fabulous Romione).

I don't write major canon ships often, so this one is less the norm for me, but I actually am happy with this fic. This is definitely one of the stories I'd recommend for new readers on my page, so thus far, I think you've picked some of my better stories to try out. ♥

Beautiful.

Author's Response:

I'm glad you liked it. It is by no means my usual type of story, but it's good to step back a bit and try something on that might not fit me well.

Thank you for the visit and the review. :D

This is lovely - it could be a scene in a future sequel book - so true to Ron's character.

Author's Response:

I'm glad you like it and find it in character. Ron isn't a character I use frequently, so it's cool to know I did it right. Thanks for stopping in!

So cool! Ron is so understanding here!

Author's Response:

I really do think Ron 'gets' more things than he's given credit for, but he's just not the type to flaunt it about. Sure, when he was younger, he was on the inconsiderate side, but most people are and they seldom stay that way.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for stopping in. :D

When I saw your name and the Ron/Hermione category, I thought I must have misread it, because I really wouldn't expect anything like this from you. But exactly as Lori said (and nothing I can say will be higher praise than that, as she is the queen of this category), considering what you think of Ron, you absolutely nailed his character and I think really showed the better side of Ron.

I loved the way you interspersed two completely different time periods in this - both moments are important in their relationship, but I liked how you didn't go for something cliched like their wedding, and rather just showed how they interact.

Also I loved the second person, and you really pulled it off - you really got inside Ron's head and allowed us to get in there as well, without it feeling at all awkward.

It is so simple to you, how to proceed. Make love, sleep in, possibly make love again, and remember why you got married in the first place while your children start their own lives. However, you know what response you will get to a statement like that, which would likely be a punch in the shoulder, so you settle on something that meets you both halfway.

“We’ll manage, love. We’ll manage.”
- Sorry to quote so much back at you, but really, does it get any better than that? I was going ot pick just a little bit to say it was my favourite, but I loved all of that. It had so much Ron and Hermione in it.

Author's Response:

I have always thought a ship's defining moments are not the major ones, but strings of more mundane events. As everyone knows, life doesn't consist of pivotal moments; it consists of long strings of things we take for granted and rarely ever think about. Those are what make a relationship to me. So I picked important events in their relationship, but not the typical ones, like their wedding or their first night together. I suppose this is my way of showing that, if two people fundamentally fit together and can work, they're there for one another during the little times and let the bigger ones take care of themselves.

Anyway, thanks for the review. And I totally told Lori that you called her the Romione queen. :D

I really enjoyed this story. I loved the weaving together of the very beginning of their relationship with their more mature love later - a great idea, and well-executed. cj

Author's Response:

I'm glad you liked it. Not anywhere near what I typically write, but it was an interesting departure from my norm. Thanks for stopping in. :)

Holy. Crap. Jess.

All this time, you've been saying what a git Ron is and how you don't like this pairing and occasionally enjoy killing him off and stuff (hehe) ... but Jess, for real, in this short little story of yours, you so completely get him. And that is not a compliment I hand out all that freely, to say the least. You've got just the perfect tone, and the perfect words coming out of everyone's mouths (especially Ron's), and how did you DO that when you don't even LIKE him? Seriously, this is so stinking good. Easily one of the best Romione's I've ever read.

This is brilliant. Just brilliant. Nice use of second person and the flashbacks... just, wowowow. LOVE.

Sorry for the incoherent review, but I'm just fangirling like crazy right now. (And taking notes.)

Happy Birthday, Emma!

Author's Response:

'Tis high praise, indeed, coming from the Canon Queen. I'll take that.

The thing is...I don't dislike Ron as a character; if I met him in person, I just wouldn't like him as a friend. I suppose I 'get' him, but he's just not my type. *coughstillagitcough*

Glad I could make you fangirl. It's not often I can win over canon shippers, so I'll take that, as well. :D
