Awww....that was so cute! It was refreshing to see Scorpius shipped with someone other than Lily or Rose that was still a Weasley. And I'm hungry now and it's all your fault for mentioning gumdrops! No, I thought that it brought them together really well and was as good a reason as any. And little Alexandra must be my favourite part of the whole fic, I wonder if she'll take after the Weasley side or the Malfoy side...
By the way, I'm really sorry if my slightly speculative and rather incoherent reviews are annoying you now. But I'll probably be haunting your stuff for a while so brace yourself... :)
Author's Response: Thank you so much for the lovely review! I was completely obsessed with gumdrops when I wrote this, so I understand. I'm glad you enjoyed the pairing. I hinted at it in another fic or two and thought I'd give it it's own. I'm not sure which side Alexandra will take after, hmmm. And no, of course your reviews are not annoying me! Reviews make an author's day like almost nothing else! So many stories go unread, or unread without comment, that it's amazing whenever someone leaves one review, let alone so many. So thank you! I'm so glad you've enjoyed some of my stories! Thank you again!! ~Gina :)
Awww! That was so good! I liked it a lot.
Author's Response: Thank you! I really appreciate the review and am glad you enjoyed it! ~Gina :)
Never seen a R/S fic before. Lovely fic, by the way. :)
Author's Response: Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the story and the pairing, it was fun to work out. I appreciate the review! ~Gina :)
Really sweet story! I secretly wish you'd used Rose Weasley--she is from the books, and she is kind of the usual match for Scorpius in the fanfiction world, but I totally understand if you didn't want to conform! Very good anyway :)
Author's Response: Thanks so much! Yes, I know Rose is often paired with Scorpius because they are in the same year and that makes it interesting, given how Ron and Draco might react. I sort of like Scorpius/Lily myself. But I wrote Scorpius/Roxanne for another story and decided to explore them a bit more here. I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks again for the review!! ~Gina :)
For a minute I thought you were going to leave it with her not remembering... but it is a Christmas story after all, and I'm glad it had this ending.
I loved the way you traced their relationship through gumdrops - it just added something beautiful to the segments and really connected them... and then how you tied that in with their daughter was lovely.
I liked how you slowly brought in details in the second half, so as a reader we were almost in Roxy's position - as in, you didn't say outright that they were married with a daughter - but of course we did have the advantage of knowing how they got together. But given the subject matter of the story, that worked really well.
I liked how you characterised Scorpius as a bookish 5th year prefect in Ravenclaw in the beginning - he didn't fit into a lot of the stereotypes people often write. Also I loved how his best friend was Fred - not Albus or Rose - and that Fred was actually also fairly bookish, not an exact replica of his namesake.
Also, great touches of detail that really added to the story - like George and Draco having a fight the day their granddaughter was born. I also liked how you included prejudice between the Weasleys and Malfoys, but didn't major on it - clearly between Scorpius and Roxanne it wasn't an issue, but it still caused problems between their families, which actually seemed very natural.
Anyway, loved the story and the characterisations of the main characters and I thought it was really well-written.
Author's Response: Thank you so much, Katrina! I really appreciate the lovely review! I'm glad you thought some of the things here worked - I know we tend to write what we know, and we all know Draco so Scorpius tends to pop out quite similar to him. But he must have had a bit of his mum in him too, so maybe she was a bit more bookish, after all. And I see Fred's studiousness as just a different focus of his dad's obvious talent and strength with pranks and the shop. Couldn't you just picture George and Draco going at it after what happened in OotP? I'm sure it didn't make things easy for Scorpius and Roxanne, but like you said, it wasn't the focus of the story, just something to make it more real given what we know of their parents. Haha, I'm glad you liked the gumdrops because I've eaten so many of them lately, that's really how this all materialized! Thanks again for the review, I really appreciate it, esp. since I felt like this next generation was a bit tough to tackle! ~Gina :)
Thank you for writing a happy ending. Knowing how much you like to kill characters (Don't deny it!) I thought you were going to leave me bereft.
This story is gorgeous and I can taste the gumdrops in my mouth as I drool over your writing.
Really clever idea, but a real shame it doesn;t qualify for the challenge.
I feel all hopeful now, even though this is not my OTP. :p ~Carole~
Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review, Carole! I could have easily made this Scorpius/Lily for you and then it would have qualified, but I couldn't. It would have felt false. I have my doubts about it actually working, since I'm a bit of a closet Scorpius/Albus shipper thanks to Jess (and the fic I wrote for her) but I had to stick with what I originally planned in this case. Of course it was going to have a happy ending. First of all, it's Christmas! And second of all, whilst I do sometimes kill a lot of characters (and definitely like to put them through the romantic ringer for sure), I think more of my stuff is fluff, and only a few fics really truly end badly. I should rectify that, haha. We'll see. Thanks so much for reading this, I really appreciate the review and apologize for the late response! ~Gina :)
This was probably the cutest Christmas story I've read on the site this year:) I really like how you paired Scorpius and Roxanne, I've never seen them as a couple in a fic before. I really enjoyed this story. Merry Christmas!;)
Author's Response: Thank you so much, and a belated Merry Christmas to you as well! Thank you so much for the compliment, I'm glad you enjoyed this story. I wanted to avoid a Scorpius/Rose pairing or Scorpius/Lily pairing and try something different for him, and since I've written them once before, they came back demanding the story, lol. I'm glad you liked them since I'm growing fond of them whilst still having my doubts. Thanks again for the review, I really appreciate it! ~Gina :)
