Amelia Bones expected to be targeted at some point, and she was ready to defend herself (or run, depending on the odds)...but being trapped in her own apartment by the Dark Lord was not in her plans.
(Madam Bones was an interesting character who didn't get much book-time, but she deserved a proper death scene--this is my attempt to give it to her.)
